France leads most of the European Union in installed solar capacity, and is home to some of the largest solar projects in Europe.
With a total capacity of 41.3GW, TotalEnergies became the top solar PV developer in the world based on its operational, under-construction, and power purchase agreement (PPA)-contracted projects. India-based renewable energy developer Adani Green Energy ranked second with 18.1GW, followed by Canada-based Brookfield Renewable Partners with 18GW.
Regarding the top developers with the most operational large-scale solar capacity, TotalEnergies topped the list again with a capacity of 12GW. Italian energy company Enel’s renewables arm Enel Green Power was the second-largest company in terms of operational capacity with 9.2GW, followed by Adani Green Energy with 7GW.
The United States is in the top 4 ranking for countries with the most solar PV installed. The American Solar Energy Industries Association projected that total solar PV capacity would reach over 100 GW by 2021.
There are more than 7,290 major solar projects currently in the database, representing over 257 GWdc of capacity. There are over 1,040 major energy storage projects currently in the database, representing more than 43,650 MWh of capacity. The list shows that there are more than 140 GWdc of major solar projects currently operating.
Spain deployed about 350 MW (+18%) of concentrated solar power (CSP) in 2013, and remains a worldwide leader of this technology. European countries still account for about 60 percent of worldwide deployed capacity of solar power in 2013. Austria had 421.7 MW of photovoltaics at the end of 2012, 234.5 MW of which was installed that year.
