In other words, within the next decade, grid parity of solar PV systems in China is forecasted to be achieved. This provides policymakers with the information to better plan the best time that cancels the subsidies and allows the market to determine the competitiveness of PV.
According to data released by the National Energy Administration, the cumulative total installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation in China in 2020 was 253GW, a year-on-year increase of 23.8%. As photovoltaics gradually enter the era of parity and 14-five-year plan, the installed capacity will show a more rapid growth trend.
, since 2013, China’s newly added distributed photovoltaic installed capacity have fluctuated upward, and reached 29.28 GW by 2021, accounting for 53.4% of the total, and exceeding the centralized photovoltaic system for the first time in history.
If the development of the PV industry is to continue in China, it is imperative to address this subsidy reduction by achieving grid parity. Grid parity is defined as the equivalence of the cost of electricity from PV power generation with that of conventional energy power generation [9, 10].
According to our results, approximately 78.6 % and 99.9 % of China's technical solar PV potential are priced lower than the benchmark price of coal-fired energy in pessimistic and optimistic scenario.
The Northeast China has lower theoretical PV power generation mainly due to the high latitude, low solar radiation and low land use, while the lower value of the East and Central China are mainly because of thicker clouds cover and higher temperature.
