Amongst its many grid support applications, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can be also used in FFR services. The frequency of a power system indicates the balance between the power generation and consumption.
Simulations results demonstrate that the proposed controller is effective for frequency and voltage support in less than 450 ms, even in the presence of a load increase at node 9 of up to 125%.
Each BESS consists of a battery pack, an electronic voltage source converter (VSC), a controllers that regulate battery charge/discharge and reactive power injection, a battery management system (BMS), a phase-locked loop (PLL) synchronisation system and a set of electronic filters.
