Energy harvesting in electric vehicles (EVs) is a critical endeavor in the pursuit of sustainable and efficient transportation. It involves the capture and utilization of otherwise wasted energy during the vehicle’s operation.
PV power generation includes PV power generation and grid-connected PV power generation, and the scope of this paper focuses on solar energy harvesting technologies for PV self-powered applications, which belongs to the former scope. There are many studies on PV self-powered technologies, but there has been no review of this field.
Abstract: This review article examines the crucial role of energy harvesting and energy recovery in the design of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles (FCHEVs) as these vehicles have limited onboard power sources.
The experiment proved the feasibility of the proposed system in a hybrid renewable energy management system. Cammarano et al. developed a model for predicting solar and wind energy harvesting in order to increase the constancy and continuity of harvested energy.
Using photovoltaic (PV) panels as an energy harvesting method on electric vehicles (EVs) is an innovative approach that holds promise for enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of electric mobility. This integration of solar technology into EVs represents a significant step towards reducing the environmental footprint of transportation.
As to mechanical energy recovery, regenerative shock absorbers and RB systems are now common in the market. Moreover, flywheel KERSs have been used in pilot applications. In the future, electric KERSs could be a viable research direction for mechanical energy harvesting considering space, weight and efficiency.
