In this post we’ll dive into the details of different kind of connection of Solar Cells to form a Solar PV Panel as discussed in the last post. So to begin with, Solar Cells are either connected in series or in parallel or combination of series-parallel to obtain the desired rating of voltage, current and power.
Connect the two terminals of the solar cell to the two terminals of the electric motor. (The photos below show the front and back of the solar cell so you can see the connections.) Flip the solar cell face-up and notice how the motor shaft spins when it’s in the sun.
Wiring solar panels in series requires connecting the positive terminal of a module to the negative of the next one, increasing the voltage. To do this, follow the next steps: Connect the female MC4 plug (negative) to the male MC4 plug (positive). Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the rest of the string.
Use a red clip lead to connect the positive terminal of the meter to the positive terminal of the solar cell. Then, use a black clip lead to connect the common (COM) terminal of the meter to the negative terminal of the solar cell. (Note that there may be a separate terminal for measuring amperes.
Use heat shrink tube of 1/4" to protect the metallic part exposed of the cable previously cut. For installing the USB-A female cable, it's necessary to connect the red wire of this to the output of the voltage regulators while the black one to GND. For setting the solar cell, you can use double-sided foam-tape squares.
In the figure shown above, six solar cells are connected in series. As we saw in our earlier post, here also we’ll go with the assumption that the output voltage produced by an individual solar cell is 0.5 volts. Thus the combined output voltage in this case is the sum of the output voltages of the individual solar cells and is calculated as:

The Complete Guide to Solar Panel Wiring Diagrams
The total output voltage and current of your array are determined by how you connect the individual PV modules to each other and to the solar inverter, charge controller, or portable power station. Even if you don''t do any harm, a smart solar panel wiring plan will optimize performance and maximize the return on your investment.
How to Split a Solar Cell into Two, Increase Panel Voltage
When you need to boost the voltage output of your homemade solar panel and you do not want to buy a voltage regulator, you could split your solar cells into two. With two halves of a 0.5V cell, you can connect them in series and get a voltage output of 1V. All that happens is your power output from the original cell is divided in two as well, so you will be left …
