Computational fluid dynamic analyses were carried out to investigate the performance of a liquid cooling system for a battery pack. The numerical simulations showed promising results and the design of the battery pack thermal management system was sufficient to ensure that the cells operated within their temperature limits.
For three types of liquid cooling systems with different structures, the battery’s heat is absorbed by the coolant, leading to a continuous increase in the coolant temperature. Consequently, it is observed that the overall temperature of the battery pack increases in the direction of the coolant flow.
After optimization, the maximum temperature difference of the contact surface is only 3.45°C, the TSD is decreased, and the overall heat dissipation effect is improved. Fig 19.
